How to Apply to the Multiple Subject Credential Program
All forms and information about specific requirements for admission
to the Multiple Subject Credential Program (MSCP) are contained within the STEP A
(for Blended candidates) and STEP I (for Post-Baccalaureate [PB] candidates) packets.
Please allow yourself ample time to review the information in these packets so that
you can meet the deadlines for admission to the program in any given quarter.
You may enter the MSCP as a Cal Poly undergraduate within the Liberal
Studies Department (Liberal Studies Blended Program) or as a
PB who graduated from Cal Poly or another university. These
separate programs are detailed below.
- Liberal Studies Blended Program
-
The Liberal Studies Blended and Integrated programs is the result of an on-going collaboration between the Liberal
Studies Department and the School of Education. In the Blended program, students typically enter
Cal Poly as freshmen, seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies. This
program is designed so that Liberal Studies majors will have met all of the prerequisites for admission
MSCP and most of the requirements for a preliminary Multiple Subject credential, at the same time that
they earn their BS degree in Liberal Studies. After earning the degree, Liberal Studies majors earn the
preliminary Multiple Subject credential by completeing the final quarter of student teaching as well as
the seminar that accompanies student teaching. The units earned in this last quarter of student teaching
are considiered Post-Baccalaureate. This allows most candidates to complete their bachelor's degree and
and credential within 4 years and 1 quarter.
-
In the Integrated program, those on the 2009-2011 catalog curriculum, students
typically enter Cal Poly as freshmen, seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in
Liberal Studies. This program is designed so that Liberal Studies majors will
have met all of the prerequisites for admission MSCP and most of the
requirements for a preliminary Multiple Subject credential, at the same time
that they earn their BS degree in Liberal Studies. After earning the degree,
Liberal Studies majors earn the preliminary Multiple Subject credential by
completing their two quarters of student teaching as well as the seminar that
accompanies student teaching. The units earned in these two quarters of student
teaching are considered Post-Baccalaureate. This allows most candidates to
complete their bachelor's degree and credential within 4 years and 2 quarters.
-
Liberal Studies Blended and Integrated students typically apply for admission to the MSCP one quarter before
taking one of the professional education "methods" courses (STEP A). STEP A and B Applications are available on the Forms & Documents

fourth week of the quarter of Admission to the MSCP.
